KGB seeks to question Belarusian-born Maidan volunteer

A KGB officer pushes for a meeting with Hrodna-based activist Dzianis Ivashyn who repeatedly visited Ukraine.

KGB Major Pavel Slavuta phoned the activist on Wednesday. The chekist demanded Mr Ivashyn should come to a regional KGB department ‘for a conversation about his recent trips abroad’.

“One should not try to guess what they want to know because lately I have often travelled to Ukraine,” Dzianis Ivashyn said on Facebook.

The Hrodna resident declined to appear at the KGB department and advised the Major to send him an official summons.

Dzianis Ivashyn was a volunteer on Kyiv’s Maidan in 2014. Now the activist is raising funds for erecting a monument to Mikhail Zhyzneuski, our national killed in the course of the Ukrainian Revolution of Dignity, in Belarus.
