‘Honest and in line with Constitution’: Presidential election-2015 may be held on October, 11

The Central Election Commission (CEC) proposes to  holding the 2015 presidential election in Belarus on October 11, state-run news agency BelTA reports.

According to CEC Chairperson Lidziya Yarmoshyna, this date is justified.

“We will not have to convene an extraordinary session of Parliament. The Parliament can announce the start of the election campaign before it closes for its annual summer recess,” she said.

The CEC will recommend the date of 30 June to the Parliament. Yarmoshyna believes that this day will herald the beginning of the election campaign.

In addition, in the event of a second round the timeframe set out in the Constitution for electing the head of state will not be violated, she added.

The presidential election will be held properly and in line with the Constitution, Belarus President Lukashenka said during a working meeting with Lidziya Yarmoshyna on Tuesday.

“There were a lot of speculations at the end of the previous year that Lukashenka would hold the election in February or March before the situation in the country changes for the worse, that he would use the situation in Ukraine and so on and so forth. Back than I said that we would hold the election honestly and on time. We keep our word,” the Belarusian leader stressed.

Belarus is not going to forbid anyone from monitoring the election, including from outside and domestic observers, Lukashenka added.
