Fighter jet Sukhoi Su-25 crashes in Lida district

A Su-25 fighter jet of the 116th attack aircraft base lost control due to an emergency situation while performing an exercise during a scheduled flight in Lida District at about 11:50 on September, 30.

The pilot made sure the trajectory of the falling aircraft was outside any populated areas and chose to eject. He was soon found unharmed by the search and rescue team, the Defense Ministry reported. A commission has been formed to find the reasons for the incident, the Ministry said.

An investigation team has started working at the site where a Su-25 attack aircraft crashed, representatives of the Investigation Committee of Belarus told news agency BelTA.

The Sukhoi Su-25 (NATO reporting name: “Frogfoot”) is a single-seat, twin-engine jet aircraft developed in the Soviet Union by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. It was designed to provide close air support for the Soviet Ground Forces.
