Business above all: Belarus FM to visit North Korea


Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makey has accepted an official invitation to visit North Korea.

Korean Foreign Minister Ri Su-yong who is currently on a visit to Belarus notes that Belarus and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea ‘cherish the old traditions of friendship and cooperation’.

The North Korean Foreign Minister confirmed the readiness of his country to advance the relations with Belarus to a brand-new level.

“We have agreed that it is needed to create new mechanisms and formats of economic cooperation, step up interaction between foreign ministries,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Ri Su-yong.

He also praised Belarus’ commitment to economic development and the improvement of people’s living standards.

Belarus is one of few countries in Europe that has trade and economic cooperates with the dictatorial regime of North Korea. Belarus is known to export tractors and other agricultural machinery to this country. As far as its policy is concerned,  the Belarusian Foreign Ministry has repeatedly denounced the actions of North Korea, for example, its nuclear tests and attacks on the territory of South Korea.
