Boy shares Internet abroad landing parents in debt

In June 2018, a boy of 11 years old was traveling to Bulgaria for holidays. On the way, he was online using the roaming service, he also shared internet access with the rest of the children on the bus — there were about 50. About 15 people used the Internet watching movies and playing games.

“My son was being a good friend and shared the Internet with the whole bus. He did not know that this was an expensive treat,” says the resident of Dzyarzhynsk, Valer Matsanovich.

As a result, the father, on whom the SIM card was registered, received a bill for 14,500 BYN.

The boy’s family is not rich. His father works as a driver, and his mother is a doctor.

“We, together with my wife, earn about $ 500 a month. This sum, 7,500 dollars is just a disaster. There is no help from the outside, says Valery. – We turned to the provider (the MTS), they are discussing the issue, there is data from the countries in which it happened. Now the technical department and the security department are working on the issue of writing off this amount. We wait, we pray, we hope that they will partially write this sum off.”

Valer says that “the son is very upset, he understood, of course, the whole situation.”
