Who's next? Russian media start demonizing Belarus - blogger

In his article Belarus Is Next Illya Varlamov, a well-known blogger and photographer from Russia, says that a new round of tension between Belarus and Russia has begun also on web and in mass media.

“Everyone is sick and tired of Ukraine, Obama is leaving, only Zhirinovsky [notorious Russian politician] tells jokes about Merkel, all gays have gone, libtards are not heard… One is getting bored! But never despair, it is not so bad! We have a new high-threat enemy,” Varlamov says with a sad irony and quotes some headlines of Russian newspapers and e-media, e.g. ‘Milk Price Goes Up Due To Belarusians’, ‘Belarus Set To Increase Tariffs On Russian Oil Transit’, ‘Belarus Violates Obligations For Oil Products Supplies’, ‘Belarus Facilitates Military Cooperation With NATO’, ‘EU Wants To Sign Framework Agreement With Belarus’, etc.

Referring to Belsat TV, the blogger recalls the ‘St. George’s ribbon’ scandal in Brest and the Russian Channel 1 programme ‘Time Will Tell’, the second part of which was devoted to Belarus. The topic for discussion was Belarusian historian Aleh Trusau’s statement that the Belarusians came into being as a nation came 200 years earlier than the Russians did.

Varlamov wonders when and if the Belarusians will welcome Putin’s green men.

“But do not forget that at the very beginning there should be sort of Maidan. They have a good location – Independence Square in the center of Minsk. Our propagandists will not be slow to gather a crowd there!” the Russian jokes grimly.

„It is hard to believe that the brotherly people of Belarus may become the main enemy tomorrow… But who could fancy three years ago that Russian and Ukrainians will kill each other?” he said in the blog.
