Belarusian football fans to stand trial in Florence


The Belarusian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the information on the arrest of football fans from Belarus in Florence. The police arrested 13 people who are to appear in court. Over 40 were detained for the identity verification and later released.

According to Italian media, a group of Belarusian football fans decided to march along the streets before FC Dinamo Minsk’s Europa League match against Fiorentina in Florence on Thursday. A lot of them were drunk. They started quarreling with the police, throwing chairs and beer glasses at them. Some fans were reported to have batons on them. Three policemen were injured.

“The consular service of the Belarusian Embassy in Rome has contacted one of the Belarusian fans who said that the detained had no complains regarding the treatment and detention conditions,” the Belarusian Foreign Ministry reports.

About 200 Belarusian footbal fans arrived in Florence to attend the match which result in Dinamo’s win (1:2)
