‘Bad language’. Author of video of police’s beating man in Minsk metro detained

In late May, the video of the Minsk police’s brutally detaining a man caused a storm among Belarusian Internet users.

Caution! Brutal scenes

Policemen detained its author, Lyudmila Sinyuk, at her workplace. The woman was accused of swearing, Radio Svaboda reports.

“They just came and detained her. They said there was swearing it the video, and for this she was taken. I do not understand how they figured out it was her who had filmed the video,” her friend said.

The woman was taken to a police station in Lenin Square.

The video shows six persons (policemen and metro employees) who were choking and beating a young man at Kastrychnitskaya metro station in Minsk. Later they said the arrestee had been intoxicated and ‘acted strange’. On May 30,  he was released. The man is expected to be summoned to  investigators soon. According to Interior Minister Ihar Shunevich called, the policemen’s actions were not illegal.

“Why did six people, including law enforcement officers, fail to detain one allegedly drunk man without bloodspilling? And  why did they fail to give reasons for detention to passers-by if he was really posing a threat to them?” Belarusians still wonder.
