No major achievements for Belarusian athletes at Beijing Olympics

Belarusian freestyle skiers have already flown home. Biathletes had their last race on February 18. They ended it without any medals and are also packing up. There is no hope for another Olympic medal.

There are two days left before the end of the Winter Olympics. Belarusians have traditionally hoped for medals in freestyle and biathlon. Since independence, the Belarusians have won 19 out of 20 Winter Olympics medals in these events. So it was with Anton Smolski in biathlon and Hanna Huskova in acrobatics. Ski acrobats are back in Belarus. After winning two medals, Belarus returned to the Lillehammer-1994 and Nagano-1998 statistics, when it had two medals. But since 2010, the Belarusians have brought back at least three medals from the White Olympics.

In the final biathlon race, a mass start at 15 kilometers, Belarus was represented only by Anton Smolski. He made four penalties and finished only in 17th place.

After the race, Anton gave an interview for the Telegram-channel team.by.

Hanna Sola and Dinara Alimbekova of the women’s team started the race and finished 10th and 12th.

On February 18, Belarusians were also on the starting line in speed skating as Ivan Halavatsyuk came sixth in the 1,000 meters race.

Currently, Belarus, with two medals, occupies 22nd place in the overall ranking. The national team of Norway is winning the Beijing Games. The Scandinavians have 34 medals, 15 of which are gold ones (a new record for the Olympic Winter Games).
