In accordance with Order Nr 700 by the the Council of Ministers of Belarus, Belarus is going to impose an embargo on food products from Western countries.
The corresponding document ‘On the application of special measures towards certain types of goods’ was adopted on December 6 and published on the national legal portal.
Probably, this is how the Belarusian authorities have responded to the recent round of sanctions slapped on the Lukashenka regime by a number of Western countries.
As it follows from the order, products from the European Union, the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Norway, Albania, Iceland, Northern Macedonia, Switzerland and Montenegro are to be blacklisted. From 1 January 2022 on, there will be a ban on importing meat and dairy products, fruits and vegetables, nuts, confectionery, fat, salt from the above-mentioned countries as well as selling them in Belarus.
At the same time, the products that citizens will be importing for personal consumption, as well as goods intended for baby food will not fall under the restriction.
The order is reported to be valid for six months.
