Belarusian authorities restrict export of onions, cabbage and apples

These products can now be taken out of the country only based on one-time licenses of the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry. The government adopted the resolution on February 4, 2022.

According to it, export of onions, white cabbage, and apples, regardless of the country of origin, outside Belarus should be carried out under one-time licenses, issued by the Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) in coordination with regional executive committees or Minsk City Executive Committee.

The decision does not apply to the export of products to the EEU member states and the framework of humanitarian aid.

The document comes into force on Monday and will be valid for three months.

In a recent interview with sputnik.by, head of MART Alyaksei Bahdanau explained that the decision is related to prices in neighboring countries. “We are taking control over the export of products due to rising prices in neighboring countries to provide for the domestic market and our citizens,” said the minister.

He added that the decree’s duration might be extended up to 6 months.
