Mr Paznyak was a Deputy of the Supreme Council of the 12th convocation. Thanks to his efforts, Belarusians learned the truth about the Chernobyl disaster, the Declaration of Independence was adopted and Pahonya (Pursuit) and white-red-white flag became the state symbols. In 1988, he opened to the public the truth about the mass graves of people executed by NKVD in Kurapaty. In 1996, he led the first mass protests against the methods of Lukashenka’s rule, which later became known as Spring 1996. After a wave of political repression, Zyanon Pazniak emigrated to the West.

The emigre politician criticized not only the head of Belarus; he also blasted Vladimir Putin for his imperial policy and called him a ‘threat to the world’.

The rally brought together people of different nationalities. They were holding flags and banners and chanting: “Long live Belarus” and “Putin is a murderer”.[vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
