Yet again: Belsat TV contributor warned by prosecutors (upd)

(UPD) Minsk city prosecutor’s office has issued a warning to journalist Ales Zaleuski for his covering the hearings of human rights defender Tonkacheva’s case. The document is signed by Deputy Prosecutor Kazimir Kiazhun. The journalist is charged with illegal production and distribution of information (Article 22.9 of the Belarusian Adminitrative Code).

Ales Zaleuski had to appear at Minsk City Prosecutor’s Office on Tuesday at 13:00. The police called cameraman Siarhei Krauchuk in testimony. He was asked about Zaleuski’s professional activity.

It is the third administrative case that might be opened against Ales Zaleuski over the year. In May he was fined for 30 basic amounts under the same charges.

In December the author of Belsat TV programs ‘People’s Affairs’ and ‘Zaleuski’s Report’ was Br 6 mln fined (appr. $550) by court in the Belarusian city of Slonim, Hrodna region. Ales Zaleuski managed to uncover illegal practices in the Belarusian town of Slonim, which resulted in imposing a fine on him. This story, ‘People’s Affairs. Corruption in House and Utility Sector’, was recognised Belsat’s Best Journalistic Story of the Year.
