Strike in Maladzechna: ‘If you fail to go to work now, there won’t be any salaries at all!’

A strike has been announced by workers of a steel production plant in the Belarusian town of Maladzechna. A video of their quarreling with superiors over withholding wages appeared on the Internet.

The outraged staff say that their leadership is able only to promise jam tomorrow, but not to pay the salary debts off. At their turn, the authorities complain of the company’s being broke and reducing demand for their products in Russia.

“Under the contract, the salary must be paid on the 21st of every month. It is not the first time they have held our money back. Earlier, they managed to pay in installments, but this time they have failed to give us any money at all. People have nothing to pay the rent, pay their bills for housing services, school and kindergarden, they have no money to buy food,” Youtube user Dzmitry Vakhovich says in the description to the video.

The video shows the managers trying to talk the people into going back to work. Interestingly, their main argument was ‘if you fail to go to work now there won’t be any salaries at all!’

Malazechna steel production plant is one of the largest CIS manufacturers of products for the building industry. The company produces steel structures for bridges, supermarkets, warehouses, etc.
