Preventive blow: Police seize computers from Orsha democratic activists

The search in the office of the democratic coalition in the Belarusian town of Orsha resulted in the seizure of computers ‘for examination’, Yauhen Anishchanka, head of the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy party in Orsha, says.

On Monday evening, policemen and representatives of the Investigative Committee came to the office of Orsha democratic forces. They said a search would have to be counructed as someone had reported producing counterfeit money in the office and . As a result, no phony currency was found.

“They took even the black-and-white copiers which were allegedly used for printing money. The equipment will be kept in the Investigative Committee at least for a month,” Anishchanka stresses.

According to him, the confiscated equipment was used, among others, by the journalists of the regional news website Orsha.eu which informed the locals of the soon-to-be protesting against the ‘parasite’ law on March 12.

“In fact, they ruined the whole office,” Anishchanka says and adds that the search was a preventive blow by Orsha security forces as the leaflets calling on the residents to take part in the protest rally began to appear in the town.
