Political prisoner Mikalai Dzyadok put in punishment cell for 10 days

His lawyer told the activist’s relatives that overall he “looks good”, the wounds on his hands and stomach are healing.

According to Alyaksandr Dzyadok, political prisoner’s father, on June 10, the administration of the Horki penal colony 9 punished Mikalai by the 10 days stay in the punishment cell for refusing to work. Only June 9 was Mr Dzyadok released from the box camera, naviny.by referring to BelaPAN reports.

In the colony, Mikalai Dzyadok told his defender that he had refused to work because the working conditions were “humiliating”. Prison authorities put him in a solitary confinement until 19 June.

“He was offered work for 5 thousand BYR per day under rather strict rules, said the father of the political prisoner. He told his lawyer that he wrote a statement that he wanted to be given a job corresponding to his qualifications, education, and regular pay in compliance with the Labor Code.”

Mikalai Dzyadok was transferred to the Horki colony on 12 May, and the next day he was placed in a punishment cell for 5 days. On May 19, he was again put to the cell where he suffered from the cold and asked to be transferred to another cell, but to no avail. As a result, on May 20, to draw attention to the duty officers, the young man cut his arms and stomach. The political prisoner was placed in the medical unit, but after receiving the first aid, he was returned to the same cold room, where he stayed until May 26. Mr Dzyadok was then transferred to the prisoner group and assigned a job. He refused, and on June 2, he was placed in isolation for seven days.

An activist of the anarchist movement, in 2010 Mikalai Dzyadok was sentenced to 4.5 years of imprisonment in the colony for alleged disorderly conduct with respect to official buildings. The activist pleaded not guilty and refused to sign a petition for clemency. In November 2014, 3 months before the expiration of the term, another criminal case was launched against Mikalai Dzyadok for “violation of the punishment regime.” On February 26, 2015, the court extended his detention for 1 year and 3 days. To serve the new term, the political prisoner was sent to the colony 9 in Horki (Mahiliou region).
