Minsk authorities recommend using Belarusian in ads

Minsk City Executive Committee has recommended to write the words and texts for advertising signs in the Belarusian language, if their placement is expected on buildings of historical and cultural value.

“This will help create a national entourage. That is why we, together with the Committee of Architecture and Urban development, recommend that where it is possible, signs and advertising were in the Belarusian language. People have asked us for this,” Iryna Letnyak, Head of Control over advertising and consumer protection department of the Minsk City Executive Committee, told the agency Minsk-Naviny.

In accordance with the Belarusian legislation, the text of outdoor advertising can be put there in any language, if it is an advertisement (signs) of registered trademarks. If the text written in a foreign language includes words that do not have a trademark, it must be accompanied by a translation into Russian or Belarusian.
