Lukashenka's initiative group collects over 100,000 signatures

The initiative group to nominate Alyaksandr Lukashenka as a candidate for the 2015 presidential election in Belarus has already submitted more than 100,000 signatures to the territorial election commissions, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Lidziya Yarmoshyna said in her video address on vybory2015.by.

“Initiative groups work independently and report to no one including the Central Election Commission. However, we have information that two groups have already submitted a part of signature sheets to the territorial election commissions. I can say that over 100,000 signatures have been submitted to support the nomination of Alyaksandr Lukashenka as the presidential candidate and more than 500 signatures have been received in support of Anatol Lyabedzka,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Lidziya Yarmoshyna as saying.

The Central Election Commission of Belarus registered eight initiative groups to nominate Alyaksandr Lukashenka, Syarhei Kalyakin, Syarhei Haydukevich, Viktar Tsyareshchanka, Mikalai Ulakhovich, Zhanna Ramanoaskaya, Tatsiana Karatkevich and Anatol Lyabedzka. In order to be nominated as a presidential candidate they should collect at least 100,000 valid support signatures from voters. Voters can put their signatures in support of several potential candidates and sign only sign for a specific candidate.

The fifth election of the President of the Republic of Belarus is to be held on October 11, 2015.
