Less than 0.2% acquittals in Belarus in 2017

According to the report posted on the official website of the Supreme Court of Belarus, in the past 6 months, 21,326 people were sentenced in Belarus. Number of acquittals is less than 0.17%.

This low number of sentences in favor of the defendant is traditional for Belarus. Back in February, the first deputy of the Supreme Court Valer Kalinkovich explained these results by the reform of the law enforcement — meaning the separation of the Investigative Committee and the Prosecutor’s Office.

Meanwhile, the largest number of criminal cases had to do with the property: as many as 8,217 people were sentenced based on the relevant articles of the criminal code.

Also in the last six months, district and city courts passed 182,765 decisions on administrative matters, most sentences are associated with alcohol abuse.
