How will voting results change our life? Pre-election debates on Belsat TV

Belsat TV is launching a new cycle of pre-election debates. Its first part is devoted to the political situation in Belarus.

A panel discussion about the political campaign ‘Elections-2015’ is hosted by Belsat TV presenters Pavel Mazheyka and Dzmitry Hurnevich.

Our experts are Zmitser Lukashuk, special correspondent for European Radio for Belarus; Vital Tsyhankou, a columnist for Radio Free Europe – Radio Liberty; Valeryia Kastyuhova, an editor of The Belarusian Yearbook and political commentator Paulyuk Bykouski.

How will results of the election change our life after October, 11?

“In my opinion, the current campaign is very different from those of 2001 and 2006, because now there is not a single major actor who declares their will to defeat Lukashenka. In fact, no competition of  ideas is seen, at least at this stage. We are watching not an election, but a ceremony,” Pavlyuk Bykouski said.

In his turn, Vital Tsygankov noted that people did have a little faith in a decent campaign in 2006 and 2010. But this time the opposition has realized that Lidziya Yarmoshyna, Chairwoman of the Central Election Commission, will not declare ‘some other result’, he says.

The full debate is in the video above (in the Belarusian language).
