Half of Russians supporting Stalin

Every other Russian person appreciates the work of Joseph Stalin as the leader of the Soviet Union during World War II, Russia’s fund “Public Opinion” reports on the eve of Victory Day.

Over 30% of respondents rated some work of Joseph Stalin as sometimes positive, other work as something negative, and 8% percent as very negative.

According to the survey, nearly 80% are willing to take part in celebrations dedicated to the big victory. More than half of Russians believe Victory Day to be primarily a national holiday. The survey involved 1,500 Russians from fifty-three regions of the country.

Stalin’s rating grows

It is notable that in 2005 only 40% of Russians positively assessed the activities of Stalin in wartime. In fact, the smaller the number of the living witness of Stalin’s repression remains, the bigger Stalin’s rating becomes.
