EBRD President spoke about full payment for utilities in Belarus

President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Suma Chakrabarti has commented on the Belarusians’ shift to the full payment for housing and communal services next year.

“It really is a very important step. Firstly, it is important from an economic point of view. This means that the money will be spent more effectively. But it is also important from a political and social point of view, because it allows you to realize the final withdrawal of subsidies into the housing sector. People will form the culture of a more responsible use of resources: energy, water, heat. Because it is worth thinking about the price of all this,” said Suma Chakrabarti on state television.

On January 1, 2018 Belarusians will start paying 100% of all the utilities, except for thermal energy, said the Belarusian Minister of Housing and Communal Services Alyaksandr Tserakhau. Recently, the same thing was said by Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatol Kalinin. According to the vice-premier, because of the cost, the tariffs for heating will increase gradually, depending on household income.
