According to the Western community (Big Seven, NATO member states, the European Union, the Council of Europe), the Crimea was annexed to Russia in March 2014 after the Russian armed intervention in the internal affairs of Ukraine. Ukraine itself does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia. According to a law passed by Parliament in April 2014, the Crimea is a territory occupied by the Russian Federation.
