Belarusian becomes member of IIHF Council

Now our country has more than one vote during the IIHF Congress voting.

The president, three vice-presidents and nine IIHF Council members were elected today for 2016-2020 in Moscow. A Belarusian, Syarhei Hancharou, adviser to the chairman of the Ice Hockey Federation of Belarus Ihar Rachkouski, became its member.

After the election Hancharou said that “this is a victory of the whole federation and our chairman, who nominated me”:

“This is also an indication of the level of respect for Belarus in the hockey world, which was won also thanks to the success of the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk”.

The new board also includes Franz Rayndl (Germany, 81 votes), Vladislav Tretiak (Russia, 78 votes), Zuzana Kolbenheyer (Hungary, 77), Luc Tardif (France, 72), Henrik Bach Nielsen (Denmark, 70) Marta Zawadska (Poland, 63), Ron DeGrigorio (US 46), Peter Bryza (Czechia, 44).

Fifty-two states voted in favor of Syarhei Hancharou.[/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=”196375″ img_size=”large” add_caption=”yes”][vc_column_text]

Speaking to the press service of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation Hancharou said that “the election does not mean that his task is completed”:

“The real work is just beginning. Now I need to win the trust of the delegates, working on their behalf and representing their interests. I am grateful for the support given to me, as well as for the fact that during the election campaign I had the opportunity to meet lots of people from the hockey community from different continents”.

Work in the IIHF will not be a challenge for Hancharou: since 2008 he has been a member of the IIHF Competitions Committee. From June 2007 to June 2011 he served as Secretary General of FHB and was CEO of a successful bid for the right to the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship in Minsk.

Why is it important election Goncharova

The IIHF member state, represented in Council, has an additional vote during the voting in the Federation Congress (more precisely, the Congresss: general, annual, semi-annual or extraordinary). It may be useful, for example, during the elections of the next host of the championship.
