Viktar Lukashenka visits Qatar


Alexander Lukashenka’s eldest son has met with Qatar’s Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani while on a visit to the Arab country, state news agency BelTA said on March 8, 2012.

Issues concerning bilateral cooperation between Belarus and Qatar were under discussion at the meeting. But ny other details of the visit were not provided by the governmental agency.

The previous day it reported that a series of events named Days of the Belarusian Culture of Belarus began in Doha on March 7, 2012. The three-day events were organized in accordance with an agreement reached during Alexander Lukashenka’s visit to Qatar in August 2011.

Viktar Lukashenka had a meeting with the Qatari emir as far as at the end of January 2011. The talks touched upon cooperation between Qatar and Belarus and a number of issues of mutual concern, the Qatari English-language newspaper Gulf Times then said in a brief report. Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of oil company Qatar Petroleum, attended the meeting, the newspaper said.

Viktar Lukashenka, the adviser of his father on national security issues, has been also supervising a new security service, the Presidential Operative and Analytical Centre which is allegedly a new, private security service of the oldest son of the Belarusian president. It has incorporated three key directorates of the previous Security. Now Viktar Lukashenka is believed to be actual head of the security forces of Belarus.
