Belarus asks IMF for loan to pay off debts


In February, 2012 the Belarusian authorities are to discuss the issue of a new loan program with the International Monetary Fund mission, Head of the Belarusian National Bank Nadzeya Yermakova told journalists at the press conference on January, 30, 2012 in Minsk.

According to Mrs. Yermakova, at th moment the IMF is considering Belarus’ application. «In February we are going to discuss the issue again. We offer to refinance our indebtedness to the IMF. It amounts to $ 3.8 bln,» Head of the National bank added.

In 2012 Belarus is to pay off over $ 1.6 bln of external public debt. In 2013-2014 annual repayments will exceed $ 3 bln.

Allegedly, the IMF will satisfy the application for a new loan program if official Minsk agrees to the reform program that involves tightening of monetary and fiscal policies and bringing up a structural change in real economy.
