To purchase foreign currency, Belarusian will have to present their passports, starting October 1st . – The software for that project is ready, but we still need to test it – informed Nadzieya Yermakova, the head of the National Belarusian Bank.
Yermakova informed that the new system of verifying buyers’ passports will be introduced in all Belarusian banks. However, it will not be accompanied by any quotas on purchasing currencies, reported BielTa.
Belarus had been subjected to the same system in the past for 10 years. Between 1997 and 2006 employees of currency exchange were obliged to check the history of buying and selling currency of each of their customers. The objective of restoring this system now is fight profiteering and currency speculation. President Lukashenka ordered that the National Bank has the system of registration of selling and buying currencies ready in October.
