Attack on the court building in Minsk


Unknown perpetrator threw bottles with gasoline on the building of Minsk court on Sunday night. Just a day before, trial of a former presidential candidate, Andrei Sannikov, was concluded in the attacked court with a five years in prison sentence.

The fire damaged entrance door for the employees. According to Interfax-Zapad news agency, at 4.40 am a security guard called police and informed that the alarm went off at the ground floor.

Police found few broken bottles at the crime scene and one sealed Molotov’s cocktail. The investigation into the act of vandalism based on article 339(2) of the Belarusian Criminal Code was launched.

Aleksander Kudlayeu, a member of the „European Belarus”, and his son, were arrested today. According to the charter97.org website, their arrested is related to the investigation in the attack on court. The website also informed that their computers and external drives were confiscated by the police.

In August 2010, Molotov’s cocktails where thrown at the Russian embassy. Belarusian authorities blamed anarchists for that attack. .
