Belarusian President breaks promise: British journalist denied entry to Belarus

Jonathan Rugman, a journalist of Channel 4 News, was asked to take off the train and banned from entering our country, he said on Twitter.

‘I’ve been banned from Belarus. Taken off the train and sent packing. The Lukashenka regime in the spotlight Channel4News tonight,’ Mr Rugman reports.

The journalist wonders why Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenka who invited foreign fans and mass media representatives to the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship hosted by Belarus fails to meet his promises.

There will be no restrictions for journalists who will work in Belarus during the Ice Hockey World Championship, Aliaksandr Lukashenka said when delivering the address to the Belarusian people and the National Assembly on April 22.

‘Let the journalists go anywhere, see anything, and write whatever they like. But if they see dirt they will expose it, write about it and photograph it. So let's clean the country, every village, especially near Minsk, and oblast capitals,’ state-run news agency BelTA quoted him as saying.

‘If they criticize someone I will thank them, and will deal with those who were criticized,’ the Belarusian leader added.
