Giant Chinese 3D printer builds ten cheap houses in just one day

A Chinese construction company is building houses that can be mass-produced using a 3D printer. Using a mixture of cement and construction waste, the houses can be produced for under $5,000. The walls and structure of the house are printed layer by layer using a process that allows up to 10 complete houses to be printed in one day.

WinSun Decoration Design Engineering company built the houses in Shanghai which are each 10 meters (33 feet) wide and 6.6 meters (22 feet) high.

“To obtain natural stone, we have to employ miners, dig up blocks of stone and saw them into pieces. This badly damages the environment,” stated Ma Yihe, the inventor of the printers.“But with the 3D printing, we recycle mine tailings into usable materials. And we can print buildings with any digital design our customers bring us. It’s fast and cheap,” Yihe said.
