A group of fans of the Russian national team are going to celebrate the Victory Day and organise a procession along the streets of Minsk.
The 78th Ice Hockey World Championship is to be opened in Minsk on May 9, 2014. The Russian fans do not want another anniversary of the Victory Day to be passed unnoticed.
Victory Day or 9 May marks the capitulation of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union in the Second World War (also known as the Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union). It was first inaugurated in the fifteen republics of the Soviet Union, following the signing of the surrender document late in the evening on 8 May 1945 (after midnight, thus on 9 May, by Moscow Time). Victory in Europe Day, generally known as VE Day, was celebrated on 8 May.
“The opening of the Championship is scheduled on May, 9. Usually we organize some events devoted to Victory Day every year; we are going to organise Russian fans’ march and take part in the events in Minsk. At the moment we are discussing these plans with Russia’s embassy to Belarus and the Minsk City council, the latter being responsible for organising and holding the World Championship in Minsk,” by.tribuna.com quotes Eduard Latypov, President of the fan club Russia Unites, as saying.
