Henadz Hrushavy dies at 63

Henadz Hrushavy, a prominent public figure and former Supreme Soviet deputy, died of leukemia at the age of 63.

Henadz Hryshavy established the Foundation for the Children of Charnobyl which sent children affected by the 1986 Charnobyl nuclear accident on rehabilitation trips to European countries. Unfortunately, the organization ceased its activities in 2012.

He was one of the founders of the Belarusian People’s Front (BPF) and a member of its parliamentary group in the Supreme Soviet in the early 90s.

In recent years Mr Hrushavy has delved into the matters of people affected by Charnobyl aftereffects. He also worked for Platform Innovation, an organisation defending prisoners’ rights.
