The New Year tree installed in the centre of Baku burnt down, TV channel ANS reports. According to the information provided, it was the group of young Muslims who set fire in protest of the New Year celebration on the day of Muhammad’s death.
At the same time, a lot of people in Tajikistan do not see the use of celebrating it as well. Radical Muslim consider this holiday to be pagan and inauthentic for Tajik people stating that it was imposed by the Soviet authorities. Some associate New Year festivities with Christmas and insist on their neglecting them.
