Happy birthday, Belsat: Six years of work, truth, courage and trust

For the last six years Belsat TV staff has been doing its best to convey uncensored information in the native language to the Belarusians.

Belsat TV is organising a birthday party in Warsaw. Join us!

Belsat Fest, a celebration in the company of Belsat collaborators and friends, is to start on December 10 at 8 pm, its venue being club DZIK (Belwederska 44A, Warsaw).

Music bands Addis Abeba (‘rastafarians from across the Bug River’) and RSP (‘progressive psycho rock’) are expected to participate in the event. If you like Belsat TV, Belsat in Polish,or Belsat in English on Facebook, you will stand a fair chance to get a free admission to the party!

To our deepest regret, Belsat’s representatives have to perform their professional duties without any registration. In April 2013 Belsat TV made another attempt to get a formal accreditation and filed all the necessary documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. But in vain: the Ministry’s officers refused to register its correspondent office in Minsk referring to Belsat contributors’ alleged law violations. It was the third time that Lukashenka’s regime had turned our application down. But against all the odds, Belsat TV filmed a number of reports and documentaries which were awarded at prestigious international film festivals.

This year well-known Belarusian journalist Sviatlana Kalinkina have joined our team of anchorpersons; Ales Zaleuski has launched his own project ‘Zaleuski’s Report’ which aims to cover the issues overlooked by state-run media.

During celebrating our sixth birthday Belsat Awards in three categories (TV Personality of the Year, Film/Report of the Year and Story of the Year) are to be given; a special panel of judges having already been appointed.

We are glad to inform you that a number of our website’s visitors has significantly grown. A team of its contributors has also expanded: a lot of reporters and photojournalists send us up-to-date and relevant information.

In 2014 Belsat TV is going to start a new season, which means launching new programs and projects.
