BELSAT TV is the first independent channel in Belarus. Launched on December 10, 2007, it has been broadcasting only in the Belarusian language. Formally the channel was established by virtue of an agreement signed by the Polish Foreign Ministry and Telewizja Polska S.A. (Polish Public Television) on joint long-term development and financing of Belsat TV, its director being Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy.
Belsat has broken the state-owned television’s monopoly on reporting news. It is one of the reasons why the channel and its journalists are being harassed by the authorities.
