Druzhba pipeline: Who steals oil?


The Belarusian Investigation Committee has initiated a case over crude oil stealing in Drahichyn district, Brest region.

Main oil pipeline ‘Druzhba’ (‘Friendship’) was broken near the village of Skibichi {Drahichyn district) on the night of the August 31st/September 1st. As a result, some 5 cum of flammable liquid spread over the area of 1.2 ha which is part of the pipeline protected zone. By the moment rescue teams have resumed oil pumping.

According to the investigators, ‘an unsanctioned cutting of the pipeline took place’, Ruslan Makaruk, an official representative of the Investigation Committee, says. At the moment suspects are being established, an amount of damage is also to be estimated.
