European Belarus activist bobbed by force

European Belarus activist Yuliya Stsiapanava reported on her Facebook that she had been attacked by two unindentified persons. According to the girl, one was keeping hold of her while the other was cutting her hair short.

Yuliya Stsiapanava was set on at 12:45 am. One of the men said: “Have you collected buckskins, you b**ch?” The activist believes the assault to be secret services’ payback: once she jokingly offered in social media to gather up buckskins in colours of the official Belarusian flag for their agents.

“They laid me facedown and put my cap off, one of them was holding my hands… My hair was drawn into two ponytails, they cut one, then another… When they were leaving they ordered me to lie still. I did not move because I was very scared,” Yuliya told Belsat TV.

The activist intends to report the attack to police. “I was to go to police but I fully realize that it is beating the air. Nevertheless, in my opinion, a report should be filed… But in the morning policemen came to me themselves! They allegedly learned my story through mass media and in decided to take care driving me to a police station so that I could file an application. Naturally, I refused: I will go there only with my lawyer,” she said.

Yuliya Stsiapanava was repeatedly arrested for participation in solidarity actions. She was a co-organiser of marathons of solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners.
