Belarusian ice hockey team's head coach resigns after team's failure at World Championship


Belarus ice hockey team’s head coach Mikhail Zakharau has left his post, which he held for less than two years.

Members of the Executive Committee have heard a report by Mikhail Zakharau on the preparation of the team and its performance at the World Championship in Riga in 2021. The head coach summed up the results of the season and offered his resignation, which the federation’s Executive Committee accepted, reports the official site of the Hockey.by.

At the World Championships in Riga, the Belarusian team ranked last in the group and didn’t get relegated to the lower division only because of the coronavirus. The Belarusians beat the Swedes but lost all their other matches.

The Belarus Hockey Federation’s Executive Committee members declared unsatisfactory the performance of the Belarusian national team at the World Championship in Riga.

Now the Belarusian team will be coached by Canadian Craig Woodcroft from Minsk “Dynamo.”
