students' protests

The convicts in the so-called students’ case has started to be transferred to penal colonies after their appeals were dismissed, human rights centre Viasna reports.

On January 29, Artsyom Vinakurau, a student of the Belarusian University of Informatics and Radioelectronics, was tried in Savetski district court of Minsk.

On September 2, the students continued protesting at the building of Minsk State Linguistic University. Some of them were detained.

The detention took place on August 28 at about 19:30 in the village of Zastruzhye, Ivanavski district, Brest region.

On September 1, Belarus’ Knowledge Day, lots of students took to the streets to protest against vote rigging and the authorities’ harsh response to dissidence. The police have already started detentions in Minsk.
