sanctions against Belarus

On December 2, the Council of the European Union decided to impose restrictive measures on an additional 17 individuals and 11 entities in view of the situation in Belarus.

The new sanctions package is already on the table of 27 EU ministers

The European Union may introduce its fifth package of sanctions against the Belarusian regime  in mid November, Rikard Jozwiak, a Brussels-based contributor to RFE/RL, reports with reference to his own source.

This is done “to solve the migration issue”.

During today’s discussing the response to Western sanctions, Alyaksandr Lukashenka stressed the need to introduce restrictions against a number of European companies that sell their products on the Belarusian market.

On June 23, EU ambassadors approved the sectoral sanctions which are expected to be imposed on the Lukashenka regime, Rikard Jozwiak, a Brussels-based reporter of RFE/RL, said on Twitter.

On April 19, the US Department of the Treasury announced the revocation of the Belarus-related General License (GL) and implementation of a 45-day wind down of transactions.
