Activist Andrey Sharenda appeals to everyone who can ‘shape the situation’. For nearly a month, he has not receved any news from his wife, political prisoner Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk.

Brest resident Andrey Sharenda, who was charged under two criminal articles, has left the country, human rights centere Viasna reports. A few weeks ago, his wife, local activist Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk, was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment.

Andrey Sharenda is accused of slander of the president of Belarus (Article 367 of the Criminal Code). The maximum penalty under this article is five years of imprisonment.

At least one Belarusian who, according to the prosecutor’s office, publicly criticized and insulted Alyaksandr Lukashenka, was sentenced to compulsory treatment in a psychiatric hospital.

On June 7, the trial of local activist Palina Sharenda-Panasyuk started in Maskouski district court of Brest.
