Look who’s back: Kolya Lukashenka helps father cast vote

After going off media radar, Lukashenka’s younger son Mikalai (Kolya) has made a public appearance on September 11, the day of the parliamentary election to the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of Belarus’ parliament.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka is notorious for taling his son to domestic and foreign official meetings and events. But Belarusian president’s habits have apparently changed – or he has just hired a new spin doctor.

The boy did not accompany the father during May’s visits to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, either during the Belarusian People’s Assembly, or in the final of the contest ‘Miss Belarus-2016’. He was not present even during the celebration of Independence Day. Earlier Kolya, dressed in military uniform, used to review military parades together with his commander-in-chief father. He appeared in the public eye only during a meeting with the famous American actor Steven Seagal.

“Mikalai is a pupil, not a media person,” Natallya Eysmant, Lukashenka’s press officer, said in an interview with radio ‘Moscow Speaking’.

Judging by a video by state-run TV station CTV, Kolya was feeling uncomfortable and shy of cameras:
