Opposition activist Dashkevich files complaint with riot police

Zmitser Dashkevich was beaten after being detained at the opening of the Lenin monument.

As riot police cracked down on Zmitser Dashkevich, who along with his colleagues came to the opening of the monument to Lenin near the Minsk Tractor Plant. The leader of “Young Front” later filed a report with the prosecutor’s office and police department of the Pershamaisky rayon of Minsk. The former political prisoner, who has two prison sentences and dozens of arrests, wrote a statement to the police for the first time in 15 years of his opposition activity.

“Because it is an absolutely a wild situation… Personally, I remember more brutal detentions and beatings, but it was the first time I came across such a strange reaction, mixed with some sick sexual views,” said outraged Dashkevich.

Zmitser Dashkevich is convinced that the Prosecutor’s Office will be interested in the investigation, so that such stories did not appear in the media daily. But, as human rights activists note, so far the vast majority of these cases has remained unpunished.

Thus, the leader of “Young Front” has no illusions that, as he says, “a criminal will convict another one”. You can protect yourself and the citizens only by making such criminal police actions public.
