The Ukrainian president has decided not to attend the Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Ukraine. This year, it was supposed to be held in Hrodna.
The cancellation of the visit was announced by the Ambassador of Belarus to Ukraine Ihar Sokal in an interview with “Ukraine Business Review”. The text was published on the Facebook page of the Belarusian embassy.
“As of August, confirmation of participation has been received from half of the regions of Ukraine. The official visit of Volodymyr Zelensky to Belarus was being planned. As the deputy head of the Belarusian organizing committee, I visited Hrodna in July – a wonderful Belarusian city of craftsmen and talented people. Already then, it was ready to receive guests. Just the other day, the Ukrainian side approached us with an initiative to postpone the Forum to 2021, ” Sokal said.
The third Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Ukraine was to be held in Hrodna in October. Previously, similar meetings have already taken place in Homiel and Zhytomyr.
Meanwhile, on September 23, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter that the inauguration of Alyaksandr Lukashenka does not make him the legitimate president of Belarus.
“Ukraine has never in any way interfered in the internal affairs of Belarus and will always support the Belarusian people. Considering the course of the election campaign in Belarus and further events, today’s “inauguration” of A. Lukashenka does not entail his recognition as the legitimate head of the Belarusian state,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted.
And on September 15, the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada also did not recognize the election results in Belarus.
