The well-known blogger and businessman, founder of group of companies “Sarmat-STI” Alyaksandr Knyrovich was detained in Minsk on Wednesday, TUT.BY reports. The information was confirmed by several sources in the business community and relatives of the detainee.

On Monday, Mr Knyrovich was on business in Switzerland, and on Wednesday he went to the KGB for questioning as a witness and did not return. As nn.by reports, he is in the KGB jail, with several of his colleagues also detained.

According to onliner.by, Knyrovich was detained on suspicion of giving bribes to officials. Also the KGB had questions about his contracts with Russian suppliers.

Last week Knyrovich evaluated the cost of residence in Sharshuny, where, according to local residents, the head of state comes to rest.

“Today we look as an immature, but an island of stability and predictability. This is not because we are good, but because everything around is beginning to fall and explode into a state of war,” he told Svyatlana Kalinkina in an interview.

Businessman Alyaksandr Knyrovich is known as a business mentor and a business angel for startups, who has full information about innovative technologies and investments in Belarus.

The situation with the detention of Mr Knyrovich was commented on by businessman Kanstantsin Uladzimirau-Zhurauski.

In conversation with belsat.eu, Mr. Zhurauski said that detention of Mr Knyrovich “is a diversion against our president”.

“The government is cutting the branch it is sitting on,” summarized the businessman.
