Youth activist Filip Shaurou fined 1,350 BYN for 'hooliganism and desecration of buildings'


The activist of Young Front was accused of hooliganism and desecration of buildings.

Today, an activist of Young Front Filip Shaurou has been sentenced to a fine of 1,350 rubles under Article 339 hours. He was sentenced to 1350 rubles for hooliganism and desecration of buildings. Shaurou’s property remains under arrest until the sentence is executed.

On January 16-19th 2020, Mr Shaurou painted his hands of the Pushkin monument, drew a white, red and white flag on the monument of the Interior Ministry and made graffiti “1937” on the wall of the pump station in Baraulyany. He spent almost four months in the pre-trial detention facility. His case was heard only yesterday, on May 18th.

A month ago a number of Belarusian human rights organizations recognized the case of Filipp Shevrov as politically motivated and demanded his immediate release.

Initially Philip was threatened with up to 6 years in prison. The total damage from his graffiti did not exceed 230 BYN.

Mr Shaurou was released from jail on May 4th, even before the trial.
