In the run-up to the opening of the 2018 World Cup, the Belarusian leader arrived in Moscow at the invitation of Vladimir Putin.

At the airport, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who wished good luck to Russians, was met by Zabivaka (Goalscorer), the official mascot of the championship.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in the period of June, 14 – July, 15 in 11 Russian cities and 12 stadiums.

The opening ceremony will take place on June 14 at the Luzhniki stadium in Moscow. Then the first game of the tournament, Saudi Arabia-Russia, will take place.

British star Robbie Williams and opera singer Aida Garifullina are expected to participate in the ceremony.

It should be noted that several states have opted for boycotting the official part of the sporting event. The heads of the UK, Iceland and Poland will not be present in Moscow today in connection with Russia’s allegedly using of the Novichok chemical agent in the British territory.
