Wage gap in Belarus growing

Median,not the average salary, reflects the level of welfare in the country.

Belstat has calculated last year’s median salary of Belarusians. Thus, in November 2017, the average salary in Belarus was 836.9 BYN, while the median salary totaled 635.4 BYN.

The median salary figure shows the following: half of the employees earn less than this figure, while the other half earns more.

Thus, 50% of Belarusians receive 201.5 rubles less than the average salary in the country.

This calculation is done by the National Statistical Committee once every six months. At the same time, calculation of the level of population’s social stratification showed that Belarusians who have high earnings receive 4 times more than those with low-paid jobs.
