Vote on amendments to Russian Constitution to be held on April 22

The all-Russian vote on amendments to the Constitution will be held on April 22. The date was approved at a meeting of President Vladimir Putin with a working group that is preparing proposals for amendments.

This date was suggested by the co-chairman of the working group, Andrei Klishas. According to him, the Orthodox post ends on April 19, and Muslims start the holy month of Ramadan on April 24, so April 22 is the best date. Vladimir Putin did not comment on the proposal in any way, “but wrote it down and underlined it twice,” the Kremlin Pool RIA Twitter-account reports.

“Yes, Vladimir Vladimirovich agreed with it,” said co-chairman of the working group Pavel Krasheninnikov after the meeting.

On February 25, amendments which determine the voting procedure were introduced in the State Duma. There are suggestions to use the website of public services and the system of electronic voting. If the voting is held on a working day, it will be declared a day off.

President Vladimir Putin proposed a package of amendments to the Constitution during the annual address to the Federal Assembly.
