‘Violating EAEU Treaty’. Belarus, Russia arguing over oil products deliveries

The introduction of restrictions and prohibitions against delivering Russian oil products to Belarus will run contrary to the main principles of the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, Andrey Rybakou, Chairman of the Belarusian state petrochemical concern Belneftekhim, said in response to the recent statement by the Russian Energy Minister.

As reported earlier, Alexander Novak stated that Belarus was ‘self-sufficient’ due to processing of Russian oil and oil products. In his opinion, it is ‘inexpedient’ to provide our country with oil products.

“We believe that such statements are designed to influence the negotiation process and lack constructive input,” Andrey Rybakou responded.

According to him, the Belarusian side, which always sets forth its position on the subject in the course of consultations, will not offer any specifics to mass media until the talks are over and the relevant documents are signed.

At the moment, the volume of petroleum products supply for the year of 2019 is being discussed and defined.

In August, Reuters reported that Russia intended to cut supplies of duty free oil and gas to Belarus in Q4 2018 referring to ‘budget losses’.
